About

Lauren Rzepka, LMFT

As a couple and family therapist and a sex therapist, I have treated a myriad of mental health issues and diagnoses. I have helped clients to cope with life’s stressors, both chronic and acute. I’m trained in systemic family therapy from a feminist perspective and I offer a safe and validating therapeutic relationship for all clients. My areas of expertise include couples therapy, sex therapy, anxiety, parenting, life cycle changes, depression, occupational stress, unhealthy relationships, trauma, and self-esteem. I specialize in working with couples struggling with intimacy, communication, and changes in family dynamics. I primarily work with adults.

I have been working as a therapist since 2013 and I am passionate about providing quality mental health care, promoting mental wellness in my community, and sex positivity. Prior to working as a therapist, I received a master’s degree in women’s and gender studies, examining the role of gender and sexuality in the family system. I received my Certificate of Sex Therapy from Adler Univeristy. I lived in Chicago for 10 years before relocating to the Northwest suburbs. As a working mother of two, I know just how challenging it can be to prioritize self-care and maintain a healthy work-life balance. I also work as a fitness instructor highlighting the importance of the mind body connection. When I’m not seeing clients, I love exploring my community, spending time with my family, baking, and traveling.

My Approach to Therapy

I am trained in systemic family therapy which situates the individual within their relationships and the broader social context. My approach is feminist and examines the systems of oppression that impact my clients’ lives. I am trained in sex therapy and am sex positive, queer, kink, and poly affirming, and I believe the erotic is essential. I utilize narrative family therapy, emotion-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and strength-based techniques to help my clients achieve their desired change and growth. I believe everyone has the power to author their own story. My process is collaborative and affirming. I work to empower my clients to make progress toward their goals and live their most authentic and rewarding lives.
